Cheap Trick CT 230 a retro speaker with Visaton drivers as in Klang+Ton 3/07

CT 230 aus K+T 2/2007
Technical data:
- size (HxWxD): 58.6 x 35.6 x 33.4 cm
- impedance: 6 Ohm
- sensitivity (2.83V/1m): 89 dB
- frequency range (-8dB): 33-21 000 Hz
- speaker type: 2 way bass reflex
The CT 230 is bass reflex shelf speaker containing a modified Visaton BG 20 full range driver and a Visaton TW 6 NG cone tweeter. Due to the still high enough efficiency of 89 dB (1W/1m) and the built-in impedance correction this speaker is particularly suited for valve amps.

The BG 20 is supplied by Visaton with a cone diffuser, a small funnel type attachment. Many full range drivers used to have this type of attachment in the past. For this kit the diffuser has to be carefully removed with a carpet knife (see description in Klang+Ton).

Excerpt of the review in Klang+Ton 3/2007:
... "This loudspeaker is of great charm, especially noticeable when used in conjunction with a valve amp: flow of music. While other speakers concentrate on detailed reproduction or perfect tonality, the CT 230 excels in joy of play, dynamics and well balanced sound. That the CT 230 is here and there not meticulous enough we gladly forgive since there is actually nothing lacking. Bass is astonishingly voluminous and controlled, the mids are expressive, typical for a full range driver and the tops are dynamic. Especially when playing jazz and pop it becomes evident that a large piston area is being moved. In particular, the cone tweeter does an excellent job. Even though the heydays of this driver are over, it doesn't need to be thrown on the scrap when used correctly. The large baffle certainly plays a major role in creating dynamics, by backing up the drivers. Particularly, the bass gains from it as it is solid and three-dimensional. Obviously, there are speakers with less coloration that are more universal and more suited for a living room. But that's not what this Cheap Trick is all about. The CT 230 shows enthusiasm and likes to be different and certainly excels in it." ...
